Earlier I developed a custom image filter that displays copyright text and text watermarks on photos for Orchard CMS Media Processing. This time I created a custom grayscale image filter, which converts a color photo to black and white. This could be very useful for displaying porfolios and photo galleries in Orchard CMS. Image filters and media processing are part of Orchard CMS 1.7.
I am adding the grayscale image filter to the media profile mentioned in my previous article: Image Filters and Media Profiles in Orchard CMS Media Processing. Below is the list of image filters in the media profile. The Resize Image Filter comes with the Orchard Media Processing Module and resizes each image to 400px by 400px, stretching the photo when needed. The Text Image Filter, which is used twice in the media profile, is a custom image filter I created to add text to a photo. And last, the Grayscale Image Filter is a custom image filter I just created that converts the photo to black and white.
When we add the Grayscale Image Filter to the media profile the color photos convert to black and white as you would expect. Below are the before and after photos.
If you are an Orchard Web Developer and you really like to create various filters to transform and manipulate images, you will love the addition of the new Orchard Media Processing Module and the ability to create media profiles and custom image filters for Orchard CMS.
