Orchard 1.6 RC was released last night and I encourage you to spend a few hours testing it using fresh installations and upgrades of your Orchard CMS Websites. This is a fairly critical version in that it runs on .NET Framework 4.5 and leverages ASP.NET MVC 4, ASP.NET Web API, MySQL and other technologies. I know a lot of Orchard Developers prefer to wait until 1.6 is released before downloading it, but it's more helpful to download and test the RC. Think of it as a RELEASE. We want to catch any bugs before Orchard 1.6 is released as opposed to coming out with a quick Orchard 1.6.1 maintenance release. Update: Orchard 1.6 Released!
You can always check which issues have been fixed by Orchard CMS 1.6 by checking the issue tracker. Here is a list of all issues fixed in Orchard 1.6 and of course this list will continue to grow as Orchard Developers report issues during the RC.
Everything is fair game for testing. Make sure you test the bugs you reported that have been fixed in Orchard 1.6 as well as the upgrade process from Orchard 1.5 to Orchard 1.6. Make sure you check out the new features we have in Orchard 1.6 now that it leverages .NET Framework 4.5, ASP.NET MVC 4, ASP.NET Web API, MySQL, etc. Here are a couple of Orchard Tutorials and more will appear soon to get you started:
You can check out my ASP.NET MVC 4 Tutorials as well since all those new features apply now that Orchard is running on ASP.NET MVC 4!
Of course, you will need to download Orchard 1.6 RC in order to test it. Grab the source code from Orchard on CodePlex.
Looking forward to hearing from other Orchard Developers on the testing of Orchard 1.6 RC. I've been using Orchard 1.6 for awhile from the Mercurial Repository, but today I will be working with the download for both installing a fresh version, and more importantly, testing the Orchard 1.5 to Orchard 1.6 upgrade process on a few of my websites.
